The Sonic Outlawz Collective was created to put on gothic and industrial music events (particularly DJ dance events) outside of the traditional confines of spaces officially sanctioned by the authorities. By doing so, we seek not only to challenge the authority structures of our society, but also to expose people to alternatives to the present social order.
In particular, we want to put on events that are entirely free, where the entire community is encouraged to participate, and collective decisions are made in a non-authoritarian manner, by general consensus, not majority rule.
Not only can we create events that are more enjoyable this way — by virtue of going on later, allowing people to bring their own booze in, and so forth — but we're also creating "alternative institutions," radical alternatives to the institutions of mainstream society, providing the same functions, but doing so differently — and this is a necessary component of creating a "transfer culture," a set of cultural values more conducive to creating free society, a set of values in which such a culture can more easily be imagined.
There is also something to be said for how it is inherently more enjoyable to party in a liberated space. Hence, our mission....
